Carolyn Swords leaves Soller Bon Dia!, joins Dominique Canty at Istanbul University

Young American center Carolyn Swords opted to not return to Spain, instead has broken her contract with Soller Bon Dia! and signed with Istanbul University in Turkish league who have also acquired her teammate from WNBA’s Chicago Sky guard Dominique Canty.

Swords was Soller Bon Dia!, which currently occupies third position in the Spanish league standings, third leading scorer and leading rebounder with 13.4 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game in Spanish league play.

According to, Swords leaving Soller wasn’t because of them not being able to fulfill their contractual obligations with her.

With the addition of Swords, Istanbul University also announced the signing of veteran combo guard Dominique Canty.

Canty returns to Turkey after playing last season for Tarsus. After that Canty had the worst WNBA season of her 13 year career with a career low 4.1 points and near career low 2 assists per game for Chicago Sky during the summer in the WNBA.

Istanbul University is currently ranked last in Turkish league. The team already employs 5 foreigners so that most likely means that either Miranda Ayim, Aisha Mohammed or Charde Houston will not return, as well as Roneeka Hodges or Tamera Young. There’s currently no correct information who they are replacing.
