Yildizoglu: “All indications are that the season is over for Torrens” [Updated]

During today’s clash between Galatasaray and Lotos Gdynia Turkish team’s wing Alba Torrens injured her knee and was carried of the court on a stretcher.

According to post game comments by Galatasaray’s head coach Ceyhun Yildizoglu it doesn’t look good for Torrens:

It was bad and unlucky match for us, because Alba Torrens sustained a serious knee injury in the third quarter. All indications are that the Spaniard will not appear on the floor this season. Despite the trauma our leading athletes have shown that we are a class team.

Updated: Her agent Marc Ventura told feb.es that they did an X-ray on her knee in Poland and put a cast on it to immobilize it for the travel to Turkey. X-ray determined only damage to her meniscus. On Friday in Istanbul MRI will be performed to find out the extent of damage to the ligaments.

Very very unlucky, on a fast break she got a fancy pass from Dee, didn’t keep her balance mid-air and went down hard on her right leg twisting it badly. Just seeing that hurt, and everyone in the whole gym could hear her scream. She said she heard and felt it breaking, the medical stuff (our physio) said ACL’s gone, she’s now in hospital looking for confirmation.

if it’s true, shit there goes London :(

      Poor kid.
PS. Spain won’t be in Olympics.

  • Andy

Spain is not in the olympics.

  • Andy

Sucks for her but oh well injury is part of the game. just rehab and come back next year.

Huh. Why did I see them in the Olympics?

Well, no London and no Uncasville either.

  • Machete

Well, once again she lets her team down before the two hardest games, vs Ros Casares in EL and vs Fenerbahce in TBL. Zero physics = injury prone. Take a look at Bonner (Avenida): as skinny as a skeleton yet so tough that you can push her and punch her and smash her and dance on her, she just gets on her feet and goes on. Feel the difference. One has to work hard for that, talent alone is not enough. Hate to sound mean but it wasn’t “bad luck”, it was to happen sooner or later.
P.S. Funny you’ve mentioned Spain not being in the Olympics. They’d have a chance if Alba stepped up for the Eurobasket 2011 crucial game and scored more than 2 points. Just saying.

    • Przemysław Wyrwa

This ain’t a skinny physics injury. That was just a freakingly unfortunate fall.

Are you serious right now :S

The BIG heartbreak is to all of us fans at the WNBA Connecticut Sun who were, per Coach Thibault, waiting for Alba to sign on the dotted line to come play for us this year, finally!! I know Tina Charles (team mate on Gala & whb on CT Sun too) was putting in the good word to Alba so she wouldn’t feel such a stranger here. Wish those knee injuries for women basketball players was a thing of the past, darn it. Sending prayers & best wishes for a speedy recovery Alba; maybe next season OK. BIG HUGS, Rosie

First Amaya, now Alba…… what’s going on???????????? Ánimo y fuerza Alba.

    • Andy

Spain just didn’t have it in Eurobasket. The team the did well In the world’s was not kept together. Too many changes for no reason. Plus Amya and Lyttle were injured and Aamya did not play at all. They could have made a splash in the Olympics. Sancho will be in her 30′s when the next Olympics come around and Amaya will be done playing.

  • MadridMadrid

It´s sad to say but Spain has a big dependence of Amaya…when Amaya is not on the court we have problems, not only for her quality, she is an incredible winner, is one of the special players, there are only a little group of this kind…and when she is not, the preasure is on Alba (a talented player), and in my opinion Alba has a lot to learn, she is 22…Anyway, the whole National team was horrible in EC…I wish Amaya could play FOREVER!!! And for the record…Amaya is already trainig, she will be back in February.

  • Andy

I want to know why there were so many changes to Spain’s roster in the EC. They had just won a medal in the WC. Why not keep the same exact team baring injury. Sancho played a huge part in Spain winning third and so did Amaya. With Amaya out, Sancho was hurt, and new player it was tough going.
And can somebody tell me how why Cindy Lima has been on the team for so long. She’s horrible.
