Chicago Sky have announced they have re-signed restricted free agent Shay Murphy.
“Shay’s energy and passion for the game will always net positive results,” said coach Chatman. “She has the ability to score in multiple ways, enjoys the defensive end of the floor and will get her fair share of rebounds. Although she was limited due to injury last season, her impact was duly noted and I’m looking forward to having her back in Chicago.”
Murphy was signed by the Sky on July 25th, midway through the 2011 season. Shay played great throughout the second half of the season appearing in 10 games for the Sky in 2011 averaging 9.8 points and 4.8 rebounds per game, and finished the season with the third best scoring average on the team. In those 10 games, Murphy scored in double digits four times with a career high against the Indiana Fever on August 7th, where she scored 21 points, however, on August 23rd, against the Atlanta Dream, Murphy sprained her thumb causing her to miss the last seven games of the year.
