San Antonio Silver Stars have announced trade in which they have acquired power forward Tangela Smith from Indiana Fever for guard Roneeka Hodges.
“We are pleased to be able to acquire Tangela,” Hughes said. “She is one of the best 3-point shot makers the WNBA has seen. She also brings rebounding length and great versatility to our team. We want to thank Roneeka for all she did for the Silver Stars during her two seasons and wish her well.”
A 6-3 center, Smith is the WNBA all-time leader in games played (448) while ranking fourth all-time in career blocks (554), seventh in rebounds (2,318) and eighth in scoring (5,011). She has averaged 11.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 1.2 blocks and 1.0 steals per game through 448 career contests. Originally selected by the Sacramento Monarchs in the second round (12th overall) of the 1998 WNBA Draft, Smith’s career has included stints with the Charlotte Sting (2005-06), the Phoenix Mercury (2007-10) and the Indiana Fever.
Hodges joined the Silver Stars as a free agent on Feb. 19, 2010. She played in 28 regular-season games with five starts last season, averaging 3.9 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game while leading the WNBA in 3-point field goals per 40 minutes (4.7).
