Three Stars: Whalen leads Lynx to a league record 10-0 start to the season

LWB’s three stars from last day’s WNBA action.

1st star: Lindsay Whalen, Minnesota Lynx
Lindsay Whalen led Minnesota Lynx to new league record 10-0 start to the season with 29 points on 11 from 14 shooting against the Phoenix Mercury. Whalen and Deveraux Peters were the only Lynx players to shoot 50% or better in the game after the Lynx as a team had shot at least 50% from the field in 8 of their 9 previous games.

2nd star: Angel McCoughtry, Atlanta Dream
McCoughtry was benched after violating team rules. Coming off the bench with a chip on her shoulder she scored 31 points on 11 from 18 shooting in their rout of Los Angeles Sparks.

3rd star: Crystal Langhorne, Washington Mystics
Langhorne had her third consecutive 20+ point game, but unlike the previous ones this one led her team to a win against the Indiana Fever. With 13 rebounds, Langhorne also recorded her third double-double of the season.

Honorable mentions
6 Connecticut Sun players finished the game in double-digits… Sancho Lyttle and Lindsay Harding each scored in double digits and had 6 assists… Sue Bird made her first 9 shots from the game, as she went on to lead the Storm to a win against the Shock with 21 points… Tina Thompson was 4 from 4 behind the arc, she finished the game with 16 points.

Dishonorable mentions
New York Liberty – pathetic display of basketball in 42 point loss to the Sun… Katie Douglas and Tamika Catchings combined for 6 from 26 shooting from the game against Washington… Tiffany Hayes was 0-6 and had 5 fouls in her first game starting for the Dream… The Sparks shot an embarrassing 28% from the field led by Nneka Ogwumike’s 4 from 15 night… Outside of Lindsay Whalen the Lynx shot 28% from the field… There aren’t enough adjectives to describe how bad the Phoenix Mercury are – Andrea “no bad shot” Riley was 0 from 5, Samantha “can’t guard Whalen” Prahalis was 1 from 8, Charde Houston 2/9, Alexis Gray-Lawson 1/5.
