Soller Bon Dia! and, likely, RC Celta to follow Ros Casares, leave Liga Femenina

Harsh financial times continue to take their toll on Spanish women’s basketball. Eight placed club in 2012 season Soller Bon Dia! have announced they have withdrawn from Liga Femenina.

Closing in on their status is RC Celta whose president Paco Araujo has already stated that in current situation the eleventh placed team will not be able participate in LF. They are exploring options to have a team in LF2 next season.

Down 3 teams it seems very likely that Spanish Liga Femenina could face a reduction from the 14 teams that played last season to 12 (if no one else leaves and they are able to get at least one more team to join) or 10 teams.

Teams need to pay FEB a 70’000 Euro guarantee in order to participate in LF.
