LWB’s three stars from last day’s WNBA action.
1st star: Kara Lawson, Connecticut Sun
Lawson had one of her best games of the season with 22 points on 6 from 11 shooting from the game and a perfect 8 from 8 freethrows. She also made a huge jump shot with time winding down in overtime to give Connecticut a 3 point lead before Indiana got the ball back for one last attack.
2nd star: Cappie Pondexter, New York Liberty
Pondexter recorded her first double-double of the season by scoring 14 points and dishing 13 assists as New York Liberty defeated the battered Atlanta Dream. She was four rebounds away from a triple double.
3rd star: Katie Douglas, Indiana Fever
Douglas was one of the main reasons for the game against Sun going to overtime. Douglas had 19 points in regulation, including a big three within the last two minutes, that allowed the Fever to cut the deficit to two points. She had all four of her team’s points in overtime. Douglas finished with 23 points with 9 from 18 shooting from the game, including 5 from 8 behind the arc.
Honorable mentions
Sancho Lyttle had a double-double 13 points and 13 rebounds… New York Liberty shot 50% from the game… Indiana Fever post defense which held Tina Charles to sub-average for her 13 points and 8 rebounds
Dishonorable mentions
Atlanta Dream bench was no help against Liberty – they made 6 of 25 baskets they attempted… Being without Erika de Souza until after the Olympics and Angel McCoughtry being out day-to-day with a MCL sprain, Atlanta looks like could have lost another team leader when Lindsay Harding looked to have sprained her ankle quite severely:
Scores:
Atlanta Dream - New York Liberty 60-73
Connecticut Sun – Indiana Fever 88-85 OT
