LWB’s three stars from Sunday’s WNBA action.
1st star: Angel McCoughtry, Atlanta Dream
McCoughtry returned to the lineup against New York, helping Atlanta avoid losing season series against the Liberty. With the win they’re 2-2 in 4 games played. McCoughtry was the top scorer in the game and was Atlanta’s top rebounder with 23 points and 8 rebounds.
2nd star: Sophia Young, San Antonio Silver Stars
Young was the top scorer for San Antonio Silver Stars who without much doubt defeated the Los Angeles Sparks. She was 7 from 11 from the field for a total of 20 points and also grabbed 9 rebounds.
3rd star: Sancho Lyttle, Atlanta Dream
Lyttle continues to prove to be the most important player for the Dream outside of Angel McCoughtry. The Dream lost the second quarter by 12 points after Lyttle was forced to sit with foul trouble. With Lyttle on the floor, the Dream outscored Liberty by 20 points. Lyttle herself had 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 steals.
Honorable mentions
Ketia Swanier had 9 assists for the Dream as she started in place of Harding who went down hard in her last game… Leilani Mitchell made 5 of 6 shots from the distance to keep Liberty withing striking distance for most of the game… Jayne Appel finished the game with 9 points and 11 rebounds in 24 minutes of action… Shameka Christon made her first 3 threepointers and finished with 16 points against Sparks… Seattle Storm shot 56% as a team against Washington.
Dishonorable mentions
Kia Vaughn was 1 from 11, Essence Carson – 2 from 10, Cappie Pondexter 4 from 17 for the Liberty… Kristi Toliver and Nneka Ogwumike were useless for Sparks with 3/14 and 4/12 shooting respectively… Washington Mystics under Trudi Lacey have tied franchise record for most losses throughout 44 games.
