Greek champions Athinaikos Sony Athens banned from registering new players

Following their inability to pay off Basketball Arbitral Tribunal ordered amount of 14.4 thousand euros to Katerina Zohnova, FIBA has banned Greek champions Athinaikos Sony Athens from registering new international players.

Deadline for the Greek club was set on June 26 which they failed to reach. FIBA reserves the right to impose further sanctions if the matter will not be resolved.

Athinaikos currently can register only local players.

During 2011/12 season Athinaikos had two foreigners on the team – British post player Chantelle Handy and Bulgarian post Vera Perostyska.

Athinaikos have won more than 100 consecutive Greek league games and were the champions of EuroCup Women in 2009/10 season.
