Three Stars: Bird returns with 31 points, Perkins leads Silver Stars to seventh straight win

LWB’s three stars from last day’s WNBA action.

1st star: Sue Bird, Seattle Storm
Bird returned after sitting out a game on Saturday due to a hip injury and did it by dropping 26 points on the Phoenix Mercury in the first half alone. She finished the game with 31 points.

2nd star: Jia Perkins, San Antonio Silver Stars
Jia Perkins scored 24 points for the Silver Stars in their win against the Liberty. She also stole the ball six times from the Liberty players.

3rd star: Essence Carson, New York Liberty
Carson had 25 points for the Liberty in their loss to Silver Stars. She went 11 from 19 from the floor.

Honorable mentions
Ivory Latta led Tulsa Shock to their third victory of the season by scoring 18 points… Becky Hammon had 23 points for Silver Stars, Sophia Young had 21… Pondexter scored 23 points for the Liberty… Candace Parker recorded yet another double-double – 14 points and 12 rebounds… Kristi Toliver led the Sparks with 19 points.

Dishonorable mentions
Only Crystal Langhorne was able to score in double digits for the Washington Mystics. The clock seems to be running out for Trudi Lacey… DeMya Walker left the game at the start of second half with an injury and didn’t return… Atlanta Dream without Angel McCoughtry scored on 34% field goals from the game… Phoenix Mercury were 2 from 17 behind the arc.
