Three Stars: Lynx set WNBA shooting record, Pondexter nets 33 in a loss

LWB’s three stars from last day’s WNBA action.

1st star: Cappie Pondexter, New York Liberty
Pondexter was unstoppable for the Liberty, scoring 33 points on 13 from 19 shooting. Her efforts weren’t enough as Liberty narrowly fell to Fever.

2nd star: Tamika Catchings, Indiana Fever
Catchings came up big for the Fever in the fourth quarter making two important three pointers and pulling down an offensive rebound with under 10 seconds remaining in the game. She was fouled and made two FT’s that ended up as the difference in the game. Catchings finished the game with 23 points and 7 rebounds.

3rd star: Candice Wiggins, Minnesota Lynx
Wiggins scored 25 points to lead Minnesota Lynx past the Tulsa Shock. She was 6 from 9 behind the arc and 2 from 3 inside it.

Honorable mentions
Minnesota Lynx set a new WNBA single game record in field goal shooting with 69.5%, previous record was held by Los Angeles Sparks in 2005 and was 65.5%… Kara Lawson seems to be playing with a chip on her shoulder ever since she wasn’t selected for the US NT – she’s averaging a career best 14 ppg, she had 17 against the Mystics, Tina Charles had 16 for CT… Katie Douglas scored 20 points for Fever… Lindsay Whalen had 14 points and 7 assists for Lynx, Maya Moore had 24 points… Ivory Latta scored 25 points on 10 from 14 shooting… Candace Parker scored 24 points and grabbed 14 rebounds.

Dishonorable mentions
Connecticut Sun were dominated on the boards by the Mystics 23 vs 38… Nicole Powell was very invisible for someone who played the whole game – she shot 2 from 6 from the field… Samantha Prahalis shot 3 from 14, had 2 assists and 4 turnovers… Despite dominating on the boards Nneka Ogwumike struggled mightily to get the ball in the hoop – she was 2 from 12 from the game.

Washington Mystics – Connecticut Sun 70-77
Indiana Fever – New York Liberty 84-82
