During the previous week FIBA Europe has released regulations for club competitions in 2012/13.
There aren’t much changes in EuroLeague Women regulations for the next season. Unlike it was previously talked about, there is no mention of teams not advancing to the second round of ELW, joining the teams in EuroCup Women elimination phase.
The final deadline for adding/replacing players will be on February 13.
Right now teams will be ranked in the second round and for the Final Eight based on win percentage in all first round games. That, of course, didn’t stop FIBA Europe changing the system last year, though this year there’s an even number of teams in all three groups.
Final Eight will be stretched out from 4 games in 5 days to 5 games in 7 days. Added will be a semifinal round where the top two teams from each group will play. Judging by the last spring, this addition could have been requested by UMMC, who lost their chances to play in the final after a loss to Ros Casares on the opening day after an unlucky collision in warm ups. Cynics will say that it only gives UMMC one more chance to fail on the big stage.
Games for fifth and seventh place have been removed, so the four teams that won’t advance to the semifinals will be able to go home after 3 days.
