Lynx rout Mystics, Silver Stars and Dream pull out wins in final quarters

There were no upsets on Friday as the favored Lynx and Silver Stars beat the league’s worst Mystics and Shock. In Eastern conference middle of the standings battle Atlanta Dream pulled out a win against the Chicago Sky.

A good night’s sleep didn’t help the Washington Mystics as they were routed in the second of back-to-back games, this time by the defending champions the Minnesota Lynx. Seimone Augustus led the Lynx with 20 points before she sprained her ankle after landing on the foot of Matee Ajavon. Mystics forward Crystal Langhorne recorded her 2000th career point. Unlike the first time the both teams met this season, this time the Lynx were able to avoid a late game collapse.

To put it mildly, the San Antonio Silver Stars didn’t have their best game against the Tulsa Shock as they scraped out a victory against the league’s worst team. After a solid first quarter the Stars were unable to limit Tulsa’s shooting as they were 16 from 30 from the field in the second and third quarters. In the final quarter the Silver Stars dominated on boards (12 – 3) as they pulled out a win, their tenth consecutive. Silver Stars forward Shameka Christon is still in a shooting slump as she has made only 1 of her last 25 3p field goal attempts.

If there’s anyone who has benefited from the Olympic games, it has to be Angel McCoughtry who has suddenly grasped the concept of passing the ball to her teammates. Most impressively she passed the ball in transition which usually was the situation when she tried to go to the hoop and force a shot no matter what. Arrival of Erika de Souza has lessened the pressure to Sancho Lyttle inside. Chicago Sky, while they have Epiphanny Prince back (she recorded her 1000th career point), haven’t change much, as was seen in the final quarter – the league’s most turnover prone team turned the ball over 6 times in the last 10 minutes.
