European U20 Championship Division A – Day One of Relegation Round

Latvia and Italy started their campaigns to remain in top division with victories against two teams that were struck with food poisoning. 

Latvia defeated 8 player strong Great Britain behind 21 points from Dita Rozenberga. Sabine Dukate and Krista Bridina each had 14 points. Francesca Whitby was the leading Brit with 13 points. Great Britain shot at just 28% from the field as well as turned the ball over 26 times to nullify their 21 rebound edge.

Italy opened a 16 point lead in the first quarter and didn’t allow Portugal to get closer than 6 points in the remainder of the game. Virginia Galbiati scored 14 points for Italy, Francesca Dotto added 12. Portugal continues to play with 6 healthy players. Daniela Domingues led Portugal with 17 points, Jessica Almeida had 13.
