Spain and Turkey have picked up their third victories in the second round all but cementing a place in the quarterfinals.
Spain continue to roll through competition as they claimed a 29 point win against Netherlands. No Dutch player scored more than 3 field goals. Queralt Casas led Spain with 16 points. Sweden claimed an important win towards qualifying for quarterfinals against Belarus. Ellen Nystrom and Farhiya Abdi each scored 15 points for Sweden. Same goes for Poland who earned their second win by handing Lithuania their third loss. Magdalena Zietara scored 18 points for Poland.
Despite a tournament best 33 point performance by Alina Iagupova, Ukraine fell to Slovak Republic. Marta Palenikova led Slovaks with 16 points, Barbora Balintova added 13 points. Serbian roster is now back to nine players. But that wasn’t enough against Turkey. Ozge Kavurmacioglu picked up a double-double for Turkey as did Snezana Colic for Serbia. France’s chances of qualifying for the quarterfinals are narrow after they blew a 10 point third quarter lead to Russia. Russia led for 94 second in the whole game, but it was at the time it mattered the most – the final buzzer. Ksenia Tikhonenko had a double-double 12 points, 11 rebounds for Russia.
