European U20 Championship Division A – Second Round, Day 2

Sweden, Spain and Turkey have all advanced to the quarterfinals with one more game to play in the second round for each team.

Terrific final quarter propelled Netherlands to a win against Lithuania. Netherlands outscored Lithuania 26-8 in the final quarter with Marlou de Kleijn and Sharon Lammerink each scoring 8 points in that frame. Belarus remain in the hunt for quarterfinals after a come from behind win against Poland. The Poles were unable to score for more than 5 minutes in the final quarter of what mostly had been a close game. Ksenija Voishal led all players with 18 points, Maryia Popova added 15 points and 9 rebounds. Sweden earned their place in the quarters with a win against previously unbeaten Spain. Farhiya Abdi, who finished with 21 points, made the game winning shot with 2 seconds remaining in regulation.

Turkey clinched their spot in quarterfinals with a win against Slovak Republic. Turkey were led by their leading scorers of the tournament so far – Olcay Cakir and Ayse Cora. France’s hopes for quarterfinal berth are still alive after they strolled past Serbia in a 24 point win. Christelle Diallo led France with 15 points. Russia failed to clinch their place in the quarters after they weren’t able to do much about Alina Iagupova who scored 24 points and pulled down 15 rebounds for Ukraine as they climbed in the top 4 of group B which would mean a place in the quarterfinals if they finish there.
