Italy, Netherlands and Australia have joined USA, Spain and Japan in the quarterfinals.
All three games in Group A finished with routs as all three higher ranked teams won by at least 25 point margin. Elisa Penna’s 13 points and 11 rebounds led Italy in the quarterfinals as they defeated Korea. USA, led by Rebecca Greenwell, has clinched the top spot in Group A as they defeated Belgium. Canada is nearing quarterfinals following a win against Mali.
Having both earned a spot in the quarters, Spain and Japan played for the first place in group B and opportunity to avoid USA until the final. Having led throughout most of the game Japan prevailed, clinching the top spot. Ai Yamada with 20 points led 4 Japanese players in double digits. Netherlands clinched their place in the quarters with a win against Brazil. Isabella Slim led the Dutch with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Australia clinched their place in the quarters by ousting Turkey. Tiana Mangakahia and Louise Brown each scored 13 points for Australians.
