U17 World Championship – Day Five

Top 8 U17 teams in the World have been determined as the first round concluded.

USA cruised past Mali with not much effort required as they won by 70. Italy defeated Belgium with both teams advancing to the second round. Elisa Penna picked up a double-double for Italy with 15 points and 13 rebounds. In what was essentially a playoff game for place in the quarterfinals, Canada defeated Korea as Saicha Grant-Allen (15 points, 13 rebs) and Audrey-Ann Caron-Goudreau (13 points, 10 rebs) each picked up double-doubles.

In game of the winless teams Brazil defeated Turkey. Izabella Sangalli scored 16. Spain rested Leticia Romero and Laura Quevedo as they didn’t need the win against Netherlands as that would mean they would potentially face USA in the semifinals. Netherlands held Spain to 37 as they won and ended up second in group B. Having locked up the first place Japan played their top players just half a quarter as they ended up being routed by Australia.
