Atlanta Dream played without Angel McCoughtry for the second time against Washington Mystics in the past week or so. The outcome under the new head coach Fred Williams didn’t change – a convincing win by the Dream. Erika de Souza recorded a double-double for the Dream with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Lindsay Harding added 16, Tiffany Hayes – 15 points.
Until the start of the fourth quarter New York Liberty did a fairly good job keeping up with Indiana Fever, then they allowed them to go on a 12-0 run and that was all she wrote for the Liberty who are currently outside of Eastern conference top 4. Tamika Catchings led the Fever with 22 points and 5 rebounds.
Against an undersized Silver Stars frontcourt, Connecticut Sun were able to get away with not having 2 of their post players available to play due to injury – Asjha Jones and Mistie Mims. Undersized forward Kelsey Griffin picked up some slack finishing the game with a double-double, 1 point and 1 rebound away from her career best. Tina Charles had 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Sun.
Tulsa Shock have doubled on their last season’s victories, with 7 more games remaining. Ivory Latta picked up a double-double 21 points and 14 assists as Shock upset the Los Angeles Sparks. With a suspect defensive effort Los Angeles allowed the hosts to 36 points in the third quarter while they themselves had 12. Unlike previous two years this Tulsa squad was able to hold on to the double-digit lead in the final quarter which should be an encouraging sight for the league.
Seattle Storm were flat with not much of an offensive effort against the league’s worst Phoenix Mercury. With off games by Tina Thompson, Lauren Jackson, Sue Bird and Tanisha Wright Seattle had way less offensive weapons available than the battered up Mercury. Brian Agler didn’t help it by avoiding playing his bench as much as he could.
