Minnesota Lynx made San Antonio Silver Stars look bad on offense, holding them to 36% from the field. What a couple of weeks ago looked like a very interesting top three in the West has become kind of boring. The Lynx even without Seimone Augustus looked dominant and, barring more injuries, should be on their way to a repeat championship.
Mystics players must be counting down the days and hours until the end of season as they clearly weren’t in the game against Atlanta Dream. Atlanta recorded 29 assists and shot at 58% from the field.
New York Liberty moved back in playoff position after a 23-7 third quarter allowed them to erase a double digit halftime deficit. It came down to final possesions and less dumb in those turned out the be the Liberty players (paging Candace Parker, you’re not a guard, you can’t take 2 opponents while running on break). Kristi Toliver had an open three pointer for the Sparks win, but she missed as Liberty prevailed.
Sylvia Fowles wasn’t available for Chicago Sky after sustaining some kind of calf injury on Friday. The Sky lost a game they had to win to remain fighting for a playoff spot. They’re now half a game behind NY and have still to play the likes of Minnesota, Los Angeles and Atlanta. Sky led for more than 3 quarters. Tina Charles scored 8 points in the 4th quarter, Renee Montgomery made 2 treys in it.
Phoenix Mercury somehow got a 11 point first quarter lead which they were able to lose by the end of the first quarter. Indiana took over the game and controlled it throughout even though the score might suggest otherwise. Phoenix are now officially eliminated from the playoffs, meaning that Seattle has secured the final spot in the West.
