Cappie Pondexter and Candace Parker named players of the month in September

WNBA has announced it’s final recipients of player of the month award this season, naming New York Liberty guard Cappie Pondexter and Los Angeles Sparks forward Candace Parker the best in their respective conferences.

In leading the Liberty (15-19) to a 6-3 record to close out the regular season, Pondexter helped New York clinch its third consecutive berth in the WNBA Playoffs presented by Boost Mobile. Along the way the seven-year veteran ranked second in assists (5.3 apg), third in scoring (19.7 ppg) and tied for second in both field goals (62) and points (177). The Rutgers product also ranks third in scoring for the season (20.4 ppg).

The University of Tennessee product led the Sparks (24-10) to a 5-3 record in the final weeks of the regular season, seeding them second in the West going into the postseason. For the month, Parker ranked second in the league in rebounds per game (9.5), fourth in the West in shooting percentage (.523) and third in the West in scoring (16.9 ppg).
