Czech ZBL tipped off on Wednesday with all 12 teams in action.
Kara Trutnov won all 4 quarters as they defeated Slovanka MB by a 32 point margin. Petra Zaplatova led all scorers in that game with 21 points, Ambrosia Anderson had a double-double – 19 points and 13 rebounds. In a Prague derby of two universities VS prevailed easily. Belgian forward Evelien Callens led the winners in scoring with 16 points, while also pulling down 10 rebounds.
Last season’s worst team DSK Basketball didn’t have any arguments to counter VALOSUN KP Brno. Brno were led by two foreigners Ashleigh Fontenette had 27 points while Amber Sprague recorded 22 points and 14 rebounds. Other Brno team – BK IMOS Brno – couldn’t shake away Sokol Hradec Kralove who held on to about a 10 point deficit throughout the game. Hradec Kralove was one of the teams to beat Brno last season, so this close margin shouldn’t be too big of a surprise. Swedish forward Farhiya Abdi led Brno with 16 points and 12 rebounds, Hana Horakova, Nicole Ohlde and Anna Jurcenkova each had 12 points.
Katerina Elhotova went 12 of 13 from the field as USK Praha defeated Pardubice in a laugher. Elhotova finished the game with 31 points, 5 other players joined her in double-digit scoring. Closest game of the opening round was played at Karlovy Vary where Jovana Milovanovic shot with 13 seconds remaining gave the hosts a one point win against Strakonice. Milovanovic finished the game with 10 points. Leading scorer for the winners was Kira Carter who had 20 points.
