Since I realized that you don’t need to give anyone anything and no competence is required in order to hand out some virtual awards, there was no stopping Love Women’s Basketball to hand out some invisible hardware.
Without much ado – the first POW award goes out to DeWanna Bonner from Nadezhda Orenburg.
Bonner recorded 22 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 turnovers, 2 blocked shots and 1 steal, leading Orenburg’s comeback against Good Angels Kosice. Bonner was decent in shooting from the floor with 6 of 13 field goals made, but she really made Kosice hurt most from the line where she was 9 of 11. Good Angels as a team were 8 of 13. Unlike other guards on Nadezhda she compensated for her turnovers with some assists, leading the team with 4. 2 blocks was the highest mark of the week, shared with only 3 other players.
Honorable mentions:
Naignoma Coulibaly (USO Mondeville) – Coulibaly was a great counter to Nneka Ogwumike inside in Mondeville’s overtime win against Polkowice. She had 21 points on 9 of 12 shooting, as well as 6 rebounds.
Candice Dupree (Sparta&K Vidnoe) – 26 points, 8 rebounds, most of which came in the Sparta&K blowout phase of the game against Tarsus.
Natalie Hurst (HAT-AGRO UNI Gyor) – 14 points and 10 assists to the Australian guard in Gyor’s first win of the season against Brno.
Laura Macchi (Famila Schio) – 18 points, but the last three were all it took for her to get here as she made the game winner for Schio against Targoviste in the final second. She finished 3 of 4 behind the arc and 3 of 5 inside it.
The near triple double of the week goes to Giorgia Sottana for her 9 point, 8 rebound and 9 assists performance against Targoviste. If only that game would have gone to overtime…
