According to local French site va-infos.fr (via basquetebol-saulzoir.com), Hainaut Basket’s president Jean-Pierre Boulanger following today’s game announced that post players Stefanie Murphy and Vera Perostiyska will not return to the team after the Christmas break.
Both of them have two French league games to play with Hainaut before the break.
Joining the team after New Year’s will be Ify Ibekwe and Petra Stampalija. Nigerian-American center Ibekwe started last season in Belgium with Belfius Namur and finished it in Spain with Burgos, where she averaged 10.2 points and 4.3 rebounds. She has not played anywhere in the 1st half of this season.
Petra Stampalija had signed with Wisla Can-Pack Krakow, but it appears that her contract has been terminated now, or will be by New Year’s. In ELW she has averaged 1.6 points and 1.6 rebounds in 8.6 minutes per game. In 20 mpg in Polish league her numbers have been 7.6 points and 5 rebounds. She played for Hainaut during 2011/12 season.
It would make sense if Wisla Can-Pack would be looking to improve during the break because there has not been much support for Tina Charles and Alana Beard from other players, including Stampalija.
Hainaut has advanced to the quarterfinals of EuroCup Women, but are ranked last in the French league.
