WNBA Free Agent List Released

WNBA has released free agent list for the upcoming free agency. Teams can start negotiating with their own cored and reserved players as well as all restricted and unrestricted players today. Contracts and offer sheets can be signed after February 1.

The list is an odd one. For whatever the reason teams keep extending qualifying offers to likes of Agnieszka Bibrzycka, Ha Eun Joo and Emmeline Ndongue. Without an expressed desire to play in the WNBA these players don’t have any value.

After Indiana Fever has maxed out times they could core Tamika Catchings she hits the unrestricted free agency. Had she not won a title last year there would surely be talk of her moving to a contender. Now it doesn’t seem as plausible she’s leaving Indiana.

Atlanta having cored Erika de Souza last year could not core Lindsey Harding. Harding not being known for staying in one team for too long, this might be concerning for the Dream fans heading in the free agency.

The only other difference maker among the UFA’s not named Catchings and Harding is Jia Perkins, although some would qualify Temeka Johnson under that description, too.

Apparently NY’s Bill Laimbeer has found some decade old contracts in some drawer which I’d guess he has terminated, so the likes of Elisabeth Cebrian, Katerina Lazic and Hadjana Radnovic are on the UFA list.

Unless she has been claimed off the waivers, Erin Thorn should also be on the UFA list.

Despite visiting the team two summers ago, Seattle Storm has apparently given up on Tijana Krivacevic who they drafted in 2010.

Anete Jekabsone-Zogota had another year under contract with Connecticut Sun, so it appears they have waived her for her to become an UFA.

I didnt know that Latta was an UFA as well. This makes the Tulsa situation interesting. There is about a 99% chance that they will draft Diggins. So who are they going to re-sign Tameka Johnson or Latta or maybe both? If i need to guess i think they will re-sign Latta. With the great year that Johnson had with Tulsa all of a sudden she has some good value again for a lot of teams.
